Why do some fear we will run out of energy?

Just a thought….

Why are we warned of disaster if we exhaust all available fossil fuels?

Why do some fear we will run out of energy?

As historian Yuval Noah Harari says “Clearly the world does not lack energy. All we lack is the knowledge necessary to harness and convert it to our needs” The amount of energy stored in fossil fuel on the earth is negligible compared to the amount that the sun dispenses every day, free of charge. Only a tiny proportion of the suns energy reaches us, yet it amounts to around 1,766,800 exajoules of energy each year (a joule is a metric unit of energy, about the amount of energy you expend to lift a small cup of chai one meter straight up: an exajoule is a billion billion joules, that is a lot of cups of chai). All the worlds’ plants capture only about 3,000 of the solar exajoules through their process of photosynthesis. All human activities and industries together consume about 500 exajoules (that includes the energy captured by our Leadsun solar lights funny) which is equivalent to the amount of energy the earth receives in just 90 minutes. And that is only solar energy. In addition, we are surrounded by other enormous sources of energy such as the ocean tides caused by the moons gravitational pull, our earth’s gravity, nuclear energy and energy from hydrogen. Of course it requires both large and small steps. Implementing good quality solar lighting on our roads, industrial open spaces, parking lots, campuses and leisure facilities is an example of a small step but one that is easy to take….
